Alicia Yourkiewicz
Executive Director

Hi! My name is Alicia Yourkiewicz and I am the Executive Director for Sunny Day Academy. I have been a part of the Sunny Day staff since February 2011 and am so proud of our fantastic reputation in Central Ohio.

My first year, I was a Pre-Kindergarten teacher and floating teacher at the Hilliard location. In 2012, I served as a school-age teacher in Hilliard, and then in the fall of 2012 was promoted to Floating Director for all our locations. As the company continued to grow, our founder and president Sara Miller realized that there was a need for an Executive Director, and she offered me that role in January of 2014.

I grew up in a small town outside of Cleveland; Grafton, Ohio.  I received my Undergraduate Degree at The Ohio State University in Strategic Communication and Spanish.  I also hold my Master’s Degree in Education.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, playing tennis, and practicing my photography skills.  I enjoy spending time with my husband, Joe “J”, sons, Joey and Lane, and our dog, Brady. My sons attend SDA Hilliard and I feel very secure knowing they will be in the safest, cleanest, and most nurturing child care environment. My niece and nephew also attend Sunny Day Academy! I have a vested interest in seeing that all our facilities maintain high standards of quality & that your children are receiving the best care.

As Executive Director, it is my job to provide support for the teachers and administrators. I serve as a liaison between our President and each of the individual locations. I travel to all the buildings to ensure a consistency of excellence in all our operations. I’m responsible for many of the “behind the scenes” administrative duties so that the directors, assistant directors, teachers, and support staff can focus their attention on providing your children the quality individualized care that they deserve. I look forward to a future dedicated to your child’s education and their social wellbeing.

Shawna Grove
Hilliard Assistant Director

My name is Shawna Grove and I am pleased to be the Assistant Director at our Hilliard location! I started my career here at Sunny Day Academy in 2012. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and I have been married to my husband, Stephen, for 10 years. Together we have 3 amazing children. Alex is 21 years old and in his senior year at the University of Northwester Ohio. Aaron is 19 years old and in his freshman year at Ohio State. Olivia is 6 years old, in Kindergarten in Hilliard, and attends Sunny Day Academy in the afternoon. We have a dog named, Roscoe and a cat named Maddie. I enjoy going to church, being outdoors, sports and traveling with my family. I pride myself on being a team player and am always willing to take on more challenges. My goal at Sunny Day Academy is to grow relationships with families and give a quality experience while they are here. If we teach a child well and care for that child, when that child is older he or she will have that ingrained in who they are. And I know that is happening here at SDA every day!

Jerianne Gooding
Curriculum Coordinator

Hello, I am Jerianne.  I joined Sunny Day Academy as the Education Coordinator in January of 2013.  My career in early childhood education can be traced back to my family’s child care center that opened in 1973.  The appreciation I have for the care and education of children comes from the hours spent as a classroom teacher for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children.

I worked as an administrator in both private and corporate child care facilities. My Bachelor’s degree was earned at The Ohio State University and I completed my graduate work in early childhood education at Capella University.

The opportunity to design and instruct early childhood professional development training for adults at the local career center further ignited my passion for working with learners of all ages.  I mentor teachers in the classroom, conduct observations, guide curriculum implementation, work with licensing compliance and teach the Child Development Associates Preparation Program.  My motto is, “To create and maintain a culture where doing the right thing for children is expected and easy!”  What have you done today to make a child successful?
